Speaker Fidelity

Fidelity is a term often used in describing audio systems, and it refers to how accurately and faithfully the sound set recreates the original recording.

When the speaker in question happens to be of a parliamentary variety, I think the term can also apply with respect to how faithfully the person in office carries forward the 'voices' within the house he represents.

The recent hilarity of the Syrian decision to involve the Interpol in Jumblat's arrest necessitated a forceful rebuke from the parliament in defense of one of it's members. And today's parliamentary session started out to be just that, with most members of the March 14th block condemning the move and suggesting robust practical steps to be taken. MP George Adwan was distinctly well-spoken.

So what did our speaker do?

Well first, he objected to the discussion, stating that this was not the scheduled issue for the session. After astutely sensing that the majority was not going to let the issue simply slide, he begrudgingly let the discussion continue. Well, excuse me Istez Nabih, but if the US administration had issued an arrest warrant for say a Hizbullah MP for a terrorism-related allegation, I doubt that the session would have been spared the indignant cries of "western interference, national sovereignty, and praise for the resistance".

Obviously uncomfortable with the whole atmosphere, he jumped at the first hint of questioning from MP Bahij Tabbara about the results of his visit to Bozo the Clown Bashar Al Assad and in a tantrum more befitting a 4-yr old, stomped out of the session quickly followed in file by the Hizbullah MP's.

I've never heard a speaker sound this bad...
