This is Lebanon - part 2

The famous Beirut theater, Masrah Al Madina, is producing a show called "Laughter under fire" (my translation) that is a comedy based on improvisation and audience participation.

It will be held on Thursday and Friday 6th and 7th of this month. 7.30 pm. Free Entrance.

Seems I'm not the only one trying to smile through this.

You say this is a "collective punishment" against all of Lebanon. Yes, the roads were bombed. Have you considered how long the war may last if Hezbollah could be re-supplied through these roads? That may mean a 3-year war!

"Only in Lebanon" is what makes it a sacred place for everyone to fall in love with. Bless you, all, and LEBANON.

I'm following your blog and i hope you're safe. it shrinks my heart to read your perspective of the Israeli attacks but from your perspective i guess this is the experience and i can't change that.

if it's of any consolation, i wanted to say that the only reason Israel is fighting door to door now in Lebanon is in order to pin-point Hezbollah terrorists and leave Lebanese citizens out of this. Technically, the air force can wipe out the whole area without risking one soldier's life but practically, they're doing the minimum necessary, because of the civilians.

a lot of political extremists here think villages should be bombed from the air instead of sending our soldiers to die there, and you know that a non democratic country (or even a democratic one in panic) would have probably done that already. no war is sterile but i know for a fact, since the soldiers are my friends and neighbors, that they're doing the best they can and some are dying for this reason.

there's a lot of pain and death on both sides of the border and all of us are paying the price of two ideologies trying to shoot each other, which is of course impossible. many of our hearts are with you and i pray the war ends, that some international force will have the guts to stand between us soon.

be strong!

Carmel, you're it!

Jim Quilty outed you

Let's start a campain on our own and "out" every paid commenter who thinks that they can take over our Lebanese bloggers.

sorry, Jim. no paycheck for me, or anyone else for that matter. it's funny how rumors evolve. come to my blog, it's deserted and quiet, and ask me about that foreign ministry initiative and I'll be happy to answer but it has nothing to do with my reasons to blog.

i want my voice to be heard as much as i want to hear yours because it's so different and each of us holds a partial truth, naturally, since we're stationed in such extreme perspectives. i think communication is important now even though it might be hostile, i fear silence even more.

It’s a great initiative, I’m happy to see some Lebanese trying to tear off a smile from their bitter destiny!
I’m sorry for all what’s happening there, my thoughts are with you.

Carmel>> I totally agree with you concerning communication, but do you think your leaders do?

hi manal, i think some of them do, yes, but they're new at their job and not brave enough to confront Israeli extremists...
